OS X for Windows People

From: Brian Nation
Date: August 2002

Hi David,

I started on CPM and moved to DOS, followed by all the Windows versions to 98. Last week, I bought an iBook running OS X.

A stranger in a strange land, completely mystified by my new machine, yesterday I spent an hour looking through OS X books and finally picked your Mac OS X: The Missing i Manual. It's been very helpful, but I think you may have neglected a very important group of users.

You explain the differences between the old and new Mac OS's, but I believe with the introduction of the new iMac and OS X, a lot of PC users will finally be switching over to Macs, as I did. A chapter comparing how the two systems work would have been invaluable. Possibly, a whole book on the subject would be timely.

All the best,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Excellent idea. I'll be adding just such a chapter to the second edition of the book, as well as writing a little switchers guidebook--a separate book--this fall. Thank you for the suggestion.

David
